On September 14, 1923, the prestigious economist Fabián Estapé Rodríguez was born in Portbou, in the Alto Ampurdán region of Girona . He was a professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zaragoza and of the Faculties of Law and of Economics and Business Sciences of the University of Barcelona, of which, in addition, he was rector. He is also honorary president of the Ernest Lluch Foundation. At the age of 22 he obtained a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and, in the 1946/1947 academic year, he began teaching at the aforementioned University. In 1953 he obtained, at the Central University of Madrid, the degree of doctor with his thesis that won the Riaza prize: The tax reform of 1845 , directed by Luís García de Valdeavellano .
In addition to teaching classes at the indicated faculties, he was a guest professor at the Pompeu Fabra University. Teaming up with Joan Raventós , Juan Sardá , José Luís Sureda and Fax Lists Jaime Vicens, they gave life, in 1954, to the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the University of Barcelona. Four years later he began a series of conferences at the Círculo de Economía of Barcelona, where, the then young businessmen; Arturo Suqué Puig , Guillermo Casanovas , Carlos Ferrer Salat , Carlos Güell de Sentmenat , Juan Más Cantí (appointed by Estapé as his executor) and José Vilarasau , among many others, learned about current issues in the Spanish economy.
For the dissemination of this knowledge he received the National Prize from the Juan March Foundation. With Laureano López Rodó he served as Deputy Commissioner in the 1971-1974 Development Plan; Furthermore, he was a member of the board of FC Barcelona during the Miró-Sans era . After being widowed in 1982, she moved at the beginning of this century to the home in León of Elisa Estapé Tous , one of her five children. He passed away in 2012.
